Pets on the Other Side
They are there. I don't get them very often.

To anyone reading who has lost a beloved pet, my condolences. Their loss is just as important to us as our humans sometimes. Depends on the person and the pet, but those relationships and connections are real.
Strangely, I do not often encounter animals in a mediumistic context. I know they are there, and I can talk to them if it’s germane to what I am doing, but often they ignore me as if I’m not real. And it’s not just cats—that’s normal for cats.
I like animals. I’ve had cats and dogs, ridden horses, etc. But for some reason, they are not paramount in my awareness. But they are there, on the other side. My friends in the woo get them with variable regularity. Some get them all the time, so I know they are on the other side.
One thing I do pick up is that frequently a pet will return in another form. It’s like they’ve been assigned to a family or a person and they will keep coming back until that family or person doesn’t need them anymore. It’s not about whether they are loved. It’s more like they are working beings and they come to us because we need them. We return their service with love. It’s all you have to do.
Animals frequent the “there” for me in a very different way. While I don’t get pets usually, I do get animals as message, as totem. Many of us have spirit animals that are guides that are . . . animals.
As example, when I first started accessing the Akashic Records, I met my animal guide and it was a stuffed teddy bear. I named him Teddy. As I progressed and learned and got over the fear of “being there” he one day appeared as a full-on, giant grizzly.
Huh.
I asked him why he was now a true grizzly, and he said he’s always preferred that form, but it would have scared the shit out of me to deal with that from the get-go.
When I read in the Akashics for someone, and we sit at my conference table waiting for their book to arrive, I ask for an animal for them. I don’t know what all the animals mean, so I’m not intending for a particular meaning or message. I just note which animal or animals show up, and then look them up in Animal Speak later, a lovely book which gives meanings for particular animals. Very often it lines up with the gist of the session and adds another backup to the meanings uncovered.
So since humans are very connected to animals on the Universe level. Do animals have souls the way we understand humans to have souls? Great question. I don’t know.
They definitely have sentience. They are aware and thoughtful. In the “there,” they are treated similar to humans, but I’ve never asked my teacher what their status is. Might do that next time I’m there.
The thing animals are best at, and why we love them, is that they love us back in a way humans cannot (or rarely achieve) and that is unconditionally. They love us as long as we feed and care for them and are nice to them. They don’t love us because we are anything else. Sometimes they love us even if we do none of those things. Animals are pure and the essence they bring to human life is invaluable.
Owning a pet is not for everyone. Other factors play a part and you are not required to love or care for animals. You are only asked to not be hostile, mean, or abusive.
Caring for an animal is more important to some humans than to others. Only you know what part they play in your life and when they leave, they may find you again if you still need them.
It’s as varied as everything else in existence. But the joy they give in life and the pain of not having them when they die is real, and meaningful.
Blessings,
Jo

I have come to understand that all things have consciousness. People, plants, animals, the elements and all inanimate objects. The consciousness varies as these different types of consciousness are grouped together. It’s a wonderful thing to tap into this consciousness and be aware of them.
